A lot of fans have been wondering why Kenneth Branagh has accepted the directorial job of bringing the Asgardian god of thunder into the big screen. And many are set to watch Thor online to see how the Irish filmmaker will fare for the live action adaptation of the popular Marvel Comics.Branagh is best known for adapting the William Shakespeare’s plays including Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, and Hamlet. Shakespeare and Marvel Comics does not sound like your typical mix up. But not to Branagh.
When he was signed by Marvel Studios to adapt Thor back in 2008, he eventually said yes, much to the astonishment of everybody. But the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts has now explained why he took up the directorial job of the big budget superhero flick. Watch Thor online to witness the gifted actor and director dabble on this genre. Branagh shared, “I was keen to do it, excited to do it. At 47 years of age, to prospect of going to Hollywood to do it and being an exciting way out of my comfort zone and being on such a scale… I was excited to do it. So the idea of doing something like this was irresistible, partly because it was so fiendishly difficult.”
He then commented, “What I thought I could bring was first of all genuine interest in the character and this story and a hope you can bring performances into the central story and character elements, a sort of directness and truth and detail in the acting, which is what I’m essentially interested in.” When you watch Thor online, it has an amazing cast, which includes Chris Hemsworth as the titular role, and Academy Award winners Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman.
So, when he was invited to do job after D.J. Caruso left the project, he revealed “Marvel's absolute invitation to me was, ‘Please guide this tone so it feels no way too cheesy, too kitschy, too campy, too sonorous, too solemn or self-righteous in the language.” He wants that when fanboys watch Thor online, they would feel fun and just enjoy it. It is slated to hit theaters this May 6.
